Shasta Memorial Heart of a Champion Award

Now taking applications for the Shasta Memorial Heart of a Champion Award.. This award honors the horse and rider that may not win many blue ribbons but has the heart of a champion.  The horse or pony always gives 130% and its rider respects and appreciates the horse or pony's effort .. they are a team.

Shasta was Drew McNary's Shetlan pony who ran her little legs against the big
horses (that was when age divisions were 17 and under, 18  and over) and won many times.  Drew was 6-1/2 when his pony, Shasta, contracted conjunctive heart failure, had a heart attack and was put down.  Drew asked that we do something to honor his "best friend" that he had since he was four.  The Shasta Memorial Award was created.

Please e-mail
hallmcnary@earthlink.net the horse and rider and the reason why they  should win the Shasts Memorial Award.  Drew (now 22 years old) will be picking the winner.

The CGA Paper will be returning to your mailboxes this Spring.  Unfortunately this means the clubs have to cover the monthly cost.  As long as RCMM keeps our ridership moving forward we won’t have to change our fees, but we will be keeping you informed!  In the meantime, look for your paper in the coming months

CGA will have a booth at the Equine Affaire in Pomona … Come Check Us OUT!  We will be there Thursday, February 4th – Sunday, February 7th.  Sharon Camarillo will have Barrel Training Sessions going on Thursday and Friday, very informative and beneficial!  For those who want to take an opportunity increase your Performance Mind, I strongly suggest you check out Barbara Schulte’s clinics also on Thursday and Friday.  She is a Cutting Trainer who also works on Mental Confidence for all riders and is exceptionally good.

LOCAL SAN MARCOS NEWS

Friends of Animals
:

California wants to legislate a 9% tax on all veterinary services, including meds.  This is counterproductive at a time when so much is being done to heighten awareness regarding caring for animals. It also will be an additional hardship on animal owners financially stressed in this economy.

Veterinarians, whose training and licensing is as rigorous as that of MDs, will now have their practice taxed as though they were dispensing canned goods.  Since the cost of surgeries (including neutering & spaying) is already high, an additional 9% fee will discourage or prevent many from giving their pet needed care.

Please call the Governor's office and help make it known that balancing the budget at the expense of pet care is not acceptable!
